AA & 12-Step Emphasis
Prescott House philosophy is based on the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous with an emphasis on the 12-step process. Our community-oriented program requires individuals to work with a sponsor and attend 12-step meetings on a daily basis, some individuals even attend multiple meetings each day.
AA Meeting Etiquette:
AA Key Terms:
- Open Meeting: Allows visitors that are not admitted alcoholics or that do not have the desire to stop drinking.
- Closed Meeting: Limited to those who are admitted alcoholics or have the desire to stop drinking, to promote anonymity and honesty.
- Discussion Meeting: A meeting director is chosen to speak about their story and can present a step topic.
- Step Meeting: References 12 Steps & 12 Traditions context and opens a discussion on the topic presented.
- Participation Meeting: Everyone in the meeting has a chance to share their experience.
- Smoke-Free Meeting: Smoking and use of nicotine is not allowed.
- Men’s Meeting: Participants limited to Men Only, also referred to as Men’s Stag.
- Big Book Meeting: Utilizes the Big Book Study Guide to discuss at meetings.
