For men struggling with sex addiction, being aware that help is available often brings much hope. Sex help may come in many forms but information found on the internet is where most individuals start their search. Although the internet may be a good initial resource, there are certain pitfalls to be aware of when conducting this search.
This blog series will focus on helping find the best possible resources when it comes to sex addiction recovery. An excellent place to begin recovery is through the guidance and aid of a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist.
Certified Sex Addiction Therapist
Not all sex addicts need an inpatient level of care, or residential treatment. Some sex addicts can be, and are successful in their recovery through a solid combination of 12-Step meetings and working with an individual therapist (preferably a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist if sex addiction is your primary addiction).
Finding a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, or CSAT, is a great place to start. CSATs are therapists that have gone through an intensive therapeutic training program, prioritizing effective and successful treatment techniques. These techniques focus specifically on helping an individual addicted to sexually compulsive behavior, recover.
Where Can I Find a CSAT?
An excellent resource to finding a CSAT is by calling the Prescott House’s admissions staff @ (866) 425-4673 to help navigate the therapy world. Also by going to the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professional’s website, or IITAP. The IITAP website has a therapist directory sorted by location.
All our staff members are in recovery themselves, with many of them well-versed in the multitude of treatment options that are out there. Getting help for sex addiction may initially be overwhelming. Give us a call, we are here to help.
