Synthetic Opioids Overdoses Nearly Double Of Heroin

72,000+ Drug-Involved Overdoses in 2017

Since 2014 Synthetic Opioids overdoses have drastically increased every year to a staggering amount of 32,000+ users in 2017. In comparison, Heroin was responsible for nearly 16,000 overdose deaths in the year 2017. In all, overdose-related deaths rose to a staggering 72,000+ deaths in 2017. It is important to note that this issue has affected men and women alike, with men responsible for around 60% of the death toll and women 40%. Dangerous drugs do not discriminate and have taken away too many of our loved ones, far too early in life.

Furthering Overdose Awareness

August 31st marked 2018’s International Overdose Awareness Day. A day of mourning to remember those who have been lost to the tragic amounts of overdoses quickly resolves into a day of activism to combat dangerous drugs and their deadly grip on the world. Death rates by drug overdoses are becoming nearly insurmountable but through continued community support and awareness areas throughout multiple countries spanning the globe from North America to Africa to Asia to Europe and to Australia.

Community Activities

Many organizations put together activities in their local area to further spread awareness. Phoenix, AZ proudly hosted it’s 4th Annual Overdose Awareness Day event promoting harm reduction and providing support for survivors of overdose. ModocAAIR Inc. initiated a Presentation followed by a Q & A with a positive Call to Action, held in Alturas, CA. Overseas in New South Wales put together a BBQ that provided free first kits while training individuals in Prenoxad. Events are still being held throughout September 2018.
