The people you'll talk to

Meet Jon & Steve

When you call, you'll be talking to Jon or Steve. Between them they've walked countless men and their families through this exact moment, and they know picking up the phone takes courage. There's no script and nothing you need to have figured out first, just a conversation. No pressure, no judgment.

Step by Step

How admission works

From the first call to your ride from the airport, here's the path. Each step is designed to make sure Prescott House is the right place for you.

1

The first call

A relaxed, confidential conversation with Jon or Steve. Tell us what's going on, ask anything, and get a feel for who we are. This is just to talk, no commitment.

2

Insurance verification

We'll check your benefits and walk you through what's covered, so you have a clear picture of the financial side before going any further.

3

Pre-assessment

Before admission, Jon or Steve will do a phone assessment, a series of questions that help us understand your situation and whether our program is the right fit for your needs.

4

Clinical review

Our clinical director and team review your assessment to confirm Prescott House can give you the care you need. They'll approve admission or, if we're not the right fit, help point you somewhere that is.

5

Travel & arrival

Once you're approved, we coordinate your travel. We typically pick up at Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX), so we'll work out flight timing together to line up the pickup. A breathalyzer is administered at pickup as a standard part of intake.

Packing

What to bring (and what to leave home)

Packing for treatment is different from packing for a trip. Here's the short version so you arrive with what you need and nothing that'll slow down your intake.

Go ahead and bring

  • At least a week of medicationsIn their original containers. More on this below.
  • Clothes for warm and cold weatherLayers, plus athletic clothes and shoes you can hike and be active in.
  • An extra pillow, if you'd likeBedding, towels, linens, and a pillow are all provided. Bring your own extra pillow if it helps you feel at home.
  • Just enough toiletries to startYou don't need to stock up, we take you shopping right after you arrive. If you do bring any, make sure they're alcohol-free.

Please leave at home

  • Cologne and aftershaveAnything with alcohol in it.
  • Hand sanitizerAlcohol-based. We have alcohol-free options on site.
  • Mouthwash and other alcohol-based productsCheck labels before you pack, alcohol shows up in more products than you'd think.
  • No weapons or knivesIncluding pocket knives and anything that could be used as a weapon.
  • A laptop, unless you truly need itMore on our tech policy below.
Why no alcohol-based products?  In a recovery environment, we keep alcohol out entirely, even in everyday items like cologne, hand sanitizer, and mouthwash. It's not about distrust; it's about making the house a place where everyone can focus on getting well. We've got alcohol-free alternatives on hand, so you won't go without.

A note on medications

Please come with at least a week's supply of your current medications in their original containers. That gives you time to meet with our psychiatric provider and complete your history and physical before any prescriptions need refilling.

Prescott House is a self-administer program. You'll typically see our providers, and our pharmacy delivers, so the clinical side of managing your medications is handled, you're responsible for taking them yourself. We log everything in at intake so nothing falls through the cracks.

About Prescott

Yes, it gets cold here

A lot of guys hear "Arizona" and picture the desert. Prescott sits at over a mile high, so the weather surprises people. Pack for all of it.

Brisk winters

Winter here is genuinely cold by Arizona standards, frost, chilly mornings, and the occasional snow. Bring a warm jacket and layers.

Hot summers

Summers warm up, so bring lighter clothing too. Sun protection and a refillable water bottle are smart additions.

Time outdoors

Hiking and outdoor activities are part of the program. Bring comfortable athletic clothes and broken-in shoes you can move in.

Your First Day

When you arrive

Intake is straightforward, and someone's with you the whole way. Here's what settling in looks like.

We help you get settled

Someone will be there to welcome you, show you around, and get you oriented. You won't be figuring anything out alone.

Bags are checked and stored

Luggage and belongings are searched at intake, a standard step for everyone, and suitcases are kept in a shared storage closet so the rooms stay clear.

Paperwork and a clinical assessment

We complete intake paperwork and sign the necessary releases together, then a clinician conducts a full assessment. That assessment is what shapes your individualized treatment plan, so your care is built around your needs from day one.

Medications are logged in

We record your medications at intake so everything's documented before you meet the psychiatric provider for your history and physical.

A note on technology

We ask you to bring as little tech as possible. Devices are used in the case management office and have to be approved, we have computers on site we'd prefer you use, so leave the laptop at home unless you genuinely need it.

Daily Life

Learning to live well, with support

Lasting recovery is about more than treatment, it's about rebuilding the everyday rhythms of a healthy life. Our program weaves nutrition, cooking, and life skills into daily living, with staff alongside you the whole way. You're never on your own here; you're learning, supported, and set up to succeed.

  • Settled in right away Soon after you arrive, we take you to the store to get what you need, so there's nothing you have to pack or figure out ahead of time.
  • Nutrition and cooking classes Hands-on classes are part of the program, helping you learn to prepare healthy meals and build a positive relationship with food.
  • Skills that last after treatment The everyday habits you build here, planning, cooking, caring for yourself, are the ones that hold up long after you leave.
What we provide
A trip to the store We take you shopping right after you arrive, so you're set up with the essentials from the start.
